Amy Winehouse, born on September 14, 1983, in Southgate, London, was a singular talent whose deeply emotive voice and poignant songwriting positioned her as one of the most striking and enduring artists of her generation. Raised in a family steeped in jazz influences – her father, Mitch, often sang Frank Sinatra tunes around the house – Winehouse's musical path seemed almost predestined.
